Just snagged a Jet JPB-300 SG-R bass guitar, and I’m already thrilled with this purchase! Found it on Stompbox’s eBay store for a steal at £340 thanks to a timely 10% off voucher. Even without the discount, this bass punches well above its price point.
What immediately stands out is the superb fit and finish. This Guitar Jet, as I’m already calling it, feels incredibly well-made. It’s surprisingly lightweight, avoiding any neck-dive issues, and resonates beautifully. The roasted body and neck contribute to a lively, almost vibrant feel, translating into a genuinely funky sound. Every note rings true and clear across the fretboard – no dead spots here. The tuners are another pleasant surprise; they feel high quality and offer a smooth, precise ratio. And the simple, functional bridge – exactly what you expect on a P Bass – is robust and well-constructed.
While I’m unsure whether the pickups are ceramic or alnico, I can confidently say I’m very happy with their sound. They deliver a classic P Bass tone that’s both punchy and articulate.
There are only a couple of minor things I’m planning to tweak. Firstly, the tortoiseshell pickguard isn’t really my style, so I’ll be swapping that out for a parchment one soon. Secondly, while the fretwork itself is impeccable – flawlessly smooth and polished – I can feel the fret ends slightly more than I’d prefer. They aren’t sharp at all, but I’m used to the more rounded fret ends on vintage basses. It’s a minor detail and easily adjusted to.
I’ve already got a chrome bridge cover ready to install, which will serve as a perfect anchor for my muting foam. And a set of TI flats are on standby to complete the vintage vibe I’m aiming for.
Expect a more detailed review next week as I’ll be busy working this weekend, putting the Jet JPB-300 SG-R through its paces.
I wanted to give an early heads-up about this fantastic bass because I haven’t seen much mention of the Jet P model online yet. Given the positive buzz around the Jet J basses, I took a chance, and it’s definitely paid off. If you’re in the market for a quality P Bass without breaking the bank, the Jet JPB-300 SG-R is absolutely worth considering. This “guitar jet” is ready to fly!
