I’ve been a dedicated patron of Nj Guitar And Bass since 1997, and I’m eagerly anticipating the arrival of my 20th instrument from Jay next month. Over these many years, I’ve had the opportunity to observe Jay’s interactions with a vast number of customers, gaining valuable insights into what truly distinguishes this store.
One thing to note right away for the online community: Jay isn’t active online. He doesn’t post on forums or even browse them, and he’s quite unfamiliar with computers. In fact, I often visit his store every four to six weeks to help update his website with new arrivals because he’s not comfortable doing it himself. His setup is quite old school – a slow dial-up connection and an older digital camera that uses floppy disks to store photos!
Despite his offline approach, NJ Guitar and Bass offers some customer-friendly policies. For instance, Jay provides a 3% discount for cash payments, which effectively covers the fees that Visa and MasterCard charge businesses. Many businesses simply incorporate these fees into their overall pricing, effectively earning an extra 3% profit when customers pay cash. Jay, however, chooses to pass these savings directly to you. It’s a policy similar to what many gas stations have recently reintroduced, aiming to save customers money.
I’ve personally witnessed numerous instances of customers attempting the “I only have X dollars” negotiation tactic. Interestingly, there’s a bank conveniently located right across the street from NJ Guitar and Bass, and I’ve seen Jay offer to cover the ATM fee for customers who need to withdraw cash. He consistently goes above and beyond to satisfy customers. However, it’s also apparent that some individuals are never truly content unless they feel they’ve excessively haggled a seller down.
NJ Guitar and Bass distinguishes itself by stocking premium, top-tier brands that are not readily available at other stores in the vicinity. Moreover, it stands out as the only local store boasting a substantial and diverse inventory of bass guitars. From my very first visit, I felt welcomed and valued as a customer, culminating in my purchase of an Alembic guitar. The store itself is unique – a cozy and compact space filled with an impressive collection of around 500 instruments. This initial positive experience immediately transformed me into a lifelong customer of NJ Guitar and Bass.
