Every guitar tells a story, and at Capozzoli Guitars, that narrative is deeply etched in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The maker’s mark on each instrument isn’t a typical logo, but a cross-section of a narrow-gauge rail from the Tweetsie Railroad. This emblem immediately connects the guitars to the region’s rich history. The Tweetsie Railroad was vital to the high country in the early 20th century, its presence woven into the fabric of life and even the music of legends like Doc Watson, a significant inspiration for Chris Capozzoli, the company’s founder. Discovering this piece of railroad history, Chris recognized the perfect symbol for his guitars – a testament to local heritage and enduring craftsmanship, laying the foundation for what he envisions as a National Guitar Company.

From Local Roots to Luthier Dream
Chris Capozzoli’s journey to becoming a respected luthier started in Charlotte, North Carolina, but his passion truly blossomed when he moved to the Boone area for college. His initial foray into guitar making began with a high school senior project. He honed his woodworking skills while earning an Associates in Art from Caldwell County Community College & Technical Institute. After gaining experience crafting custom furniture and acquiring the necessary tools, Chris established his own workshop. A pivotal moment arrived with the passing of his mother, a constant supporter of his artistic endeavors. Honoring her memory, Chris used his inheritance to pursue formal lutherie training at the prestigious American School of Lutherie in Oregon. This education refined his skills and set the stage for Capozzoli Guitars to emerge as a distinctive voice in the acoustic guitar world, with aspirations of becoming a recognized national guitar company.
The Capozzoli Difference: Heritage and Innovation
Today, Chris operates his workshop on the grounds of the historic Cove Creek School, near the revered Doc & Merle Watson Folk Art Museum, further solidifying the connection to musical heritage. Visitors to his shop are treated to a dynamic environment where diverse projects are always underway, showcasing the breadth of his craftsmanship. For his custom furniture, Chris often reclaims materials from old barns scattered across the North Carolina landscape, imbuing each piece with history. When it comes to his guitars, Capozzoli masterfully blends inspiration from vintage instruments with contemporary design innovations. He incorporates features like slimmer neck profiles, unique body shapes, and handcrafted pickups, creating instruments that feel both familiar and refreshingly new. Capozzoli Guitars is dedicated to producing timeless instruments that resonate with players seeking both tradition and modern playability, aiming to establish itself as a leading national guitar company known for quality and innovation.
