Doyle Guitar: Unleashing Monstrous Sounds from Lodi’s Horror Punk Pioneer

Lodi, New Jersey, a seemingly quiet borough spanning just over two square miles, might not appear to be the breeding ground for a globally recognized, intensely dark music genre like horror punk. Yet, this unassuming town is indeed the origin of legendary bands such as Samhain and Danzig, harboring a truly monstrous musical legacy. Leading this charge and arguably the originator of horror punk himself, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein, has once again unleashed his signature evil sound upon the world with his debut release, Abominator, under his eponymous band, Doyle.

Released via Doyle’s own Monsterman Records, Abominator is a powerfully dense and lyrically sinister metal offering. This album showcases Doyle’s evolution, logically expanding upon the musical landscape he significantly helped to sculpt. This isn’t merely a punk guitarist venturing into metal; Abominator represents the formidable return of a genuine architect of extreme metal to his macabre drawing board, ready to redefine sonic darkness. Fans of Doyle Guitar work will immediately recognize his signature heavy sound, but Abominator pushes boundaries further into metal territory.

Coming from a band with near-mythical status and having previously collaborated with one of the most iconic and respected vocalists of our time, Glenn Danzig, Doyle’s new project demanded a vocalist of exceptional caliber. Enter Alex Story of Cancerslug, a Southern vocalist whose raw, abrasive scream ignites the album. From the opening track, the malevolence is relentless, persisting until the final growl of “Hope Hell Is Warm,” the album’s defiantly dark closer. Story demonstrates a dynamic vocal range, seamlessly transitioning between visceral screams and rugged yet melodic clean vocals. His live performances are renowned for being unforgettable, unsettling, and strangely captivating – a perfect storm alongside the already imposing stage presence of Doyle himself, wielding his Doyle guitar.
