My PitBull IC-1 guitar kit arrived today, and everything looks fantastic right out of the box.

My goal for this project is to create a replica of Paul Stanley’s iconic PS10 Cracked Mirror Iceman Guitar. To achieve this, I’ve already sourced the specific binding and purfling mix to replicate his signature “Deluxe Binding.” I’ve also acquired 3mm plastic mirror for crafting the cracked mirror effect, along with materials for the reflective pickguard and truss rod cover – components that are notoriously difficult to find.
Initially, after ordering the IC-1 kit, I began working on a template for the cracked mirror design. However, I encountered a significant issue.
Comparing IC-1 Kit Body Shape to PS10 Iceman
To my dismay, I discovered that the body of the PS10 is noticeably longer than the IC-1 kit body. This difference impacts the overall sleek aesthetic of the PS10 and reduces the space available for larger shards of mirror in the cracked design. Fortunately, a friend who is a woodworking expert and fellow guitarist offered a solution. He can use a PDF of the PS10 design to computer-cut a custom body shape at his cabinet making factory. This is fantastic news!
Adding to my good fortune, a sign writer I know has offered me plastic mirror cut-offs, which are perfect for this project. I’m incredibly grateful for the generosity of my friends; their help is essential in keeping the cost of this Iceman guitar project as low as possible. Yes, I admit I’m aiming for a budget build, and that’s a big part of the DIY spirit!
