Just acquired a Jet JPB-300 P Bass Guitar and initial impressions are overwhelmingly positive. Secured this fantastic instrument for £340 from Stompbox on eBay, utilizing a timely 10% discount voucher. Even at the regular price, this bass guitar represents exceptional value.

The Jet JPB-300 immediately impresses with its superb fit and finish. It’s remarkably lightweight, preventing any neck dive issues, yet feels substantial and resonant. The roasted body and neck contribute to an “alive” and funky tone that is genuinely inspiring. Every note rings true and clear across the fretboard, with no dead spots to be found. The tuners are of surprising quality for this price point, offering a smooth and precise ratio for accurate tuning. Similarly, the simple, functional bridge is well-made and perfectly suited to the nature of a P Bass guitar.

While the exact pickup composition (ceramic or alnico) is currently unknown, their performance is certainly commendable. They deliver a classic P Bass tone that is both punchy and articulate, suitable for a wide range of musical styles.

There are only minor aspects that are less appealing, and these are largely cosmetic or personal preference. The tort guard, for example, is slated for replacement with a parchment version to better suit individual taste. Furthermore, while the fretwork is indeed flawless and boasts a mirror polish, the fret ends exhibit a slight “bump” which is felt rather than sharp. This is a very minor point, and likely stems from a personal preference for the more rounded fret ends found on vintage instruments.

Future plans include the addition of a chrome bridge cover, primarily to accommodate muting foam, and the installation of TI flatwound strings to further refine the instrument’s tone and feel.

More detailed insights and a comprehensive review will follow soon. However, this early assessment is intended to highlight the Jet JPB-300, a P Bass guitar that deserves attention, particularly given the positive reception of the Jet J Bass models. For anyone seeking an affordable yet high-quality P Bass, the Jet JPB-300 is certainly worth considering.
